The National Police College (NPC) is one of the 3 training schools of Rwanda National Police (RNP). Its history can be traced back in 1954 when the premises sheltering it were used by nursing school and later transformed into a Police Training School immediately after independence. Since then, it has changed in its various aspects including the names, mandates and infrastructure development.
In 1974, the Police school changed into the School of Gendarmerie Nationale (EGENA) with a mandate to train the then para-military force known as Gendarmerie. This name was maintained until 2001 when it changed after the establishment of the current Rwanda National Police and became “National Police Academy” (NPA). With a new mandate to train senior law enforcement officers, the College changed the name again to be the National Police College (NPC) and was inaugurated by His Excellence Paul KAGAME, the President of the Republic of Rwanda on 10 June 2013. The purpose of renaming NPC from Academy to College was in line with the fulfilment of its Vision and mission. The college is mandated to enhance professionalism in law enforcement by providing high quality and innovative training to all law enforcers of Rwanda and beyond. It is earmarked as a Regional centre of excellence in command and staff courses and higher training.
To deliver on its mandate, the College works in partnership with various other institutions including but not limited to the University of Rwanda (UR), the African Leadership University (ALU), the Arma Dei Carabinieri of Italy and Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB), Rwanda Correctional Service (RCS), National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS), Romeo Dallaire Institute and International Committee or Read Cross (ICRC) to deliver tailor-made programmes that equip law enforcers with knowledge and skills enabling them to overcome contemporary and law enforcement challenges. The programmes offered at NPC include Professional & Career Courses, Specialized Courses and Academic Programmes. Their detailed list is provided in the website Programmes Menu.
