National Police College launches inter-faculty sports activities to sustain fitness and camaraderie

The Rwanda National Police College (NPC) has launched a month-long Inter-Faculty Football Competition, bringing a mix of energy, discipline, and teamwork as part of efforts to strengthen unity and nurture talent among trainees.

Launched on Wednesday, March 18, the tournament reflects the College’s approach to training, combining academic work with structured physical activity. It is part of a broader effort by the College to create a balanced environment where students grow both mentally and physically.

The tournament so far features five teams from College’s faculties, including that of Police Professional Studies, Law, ICT, Modern Languages and Journalism, as well as a team representing NPC staff. Each side enters the competition with a clear focus on teamwork, coordination, and fair play.

The opening match delivered an exciting contest between the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Modern Languages, with both teams showing determination and strong organization on the pitch. The game set a competitive but respectful tone for the fixtures ahead.

Speaking during the launch, Commissioner of Police (CP) Christopher Bizimungu, the NPC Commandant, highlighted the importance of such activities in shaping well officers under training. He encouraged trainees to view the tournament as more than just a game, but as an opportunity to build unity and mutual respect.

“This competition is more than just football,” he said. “It is a platform for building lasting relationships, strengthening teamwork, and maintaining the physical fitness essential for professional policing.”

The tournament is organized under the College’s ‘Beyond the Horizon Project’, an extra-curricular initiative that supports student development beyond the classroom. The programme also includes debates, panel discussions, moot court sessions, and writing competitions.

These activities are designed to strengthen communication skills, critical thinking, and confidence among trainees, preparing them for the demands of modern policing and leadership roles.

By combining sports with academic and professional training, the National Police College continues to build disciplined, capable, and community-focused officers ready to serve effectively.
